Almost as much data as partminer. The price guide is accurate for the parts I tried too. I'm slightly sceptical about some of the cross-references but most I tried seem ok.
Yes, that problem will be addressed. Instead of having 0 views available the user will be able to type in a security code for more downloads. This will prevent automated downloader's while still making content available.
re: IAN Some prices may be expensive but they are a reflection of the prices displayed on the websites of Digi-key, Farnell, RS, Gerber, Futelec and hundreds more.
Is this smart enough to not treat multiple users of an ISP puts them through a proxy as being all the same person? - I don't know the technical details of how proxies work, but have seen this occasionally cause problems for users of a few freeware download sites.
Thats not true. You can assess each resource by entering wildcards in the search.
Partminer 12 Million Datasheets.org.uk 5.20 Million DatasheetArchive.com 2.3 Million Alldatasheet.com 1.07 Million Chipdocs.com 701,010 Datasheets4u.com 523,031 Datasheetcatalog.com 280,758 Chipcatalog.com 253,733
You are very proud of yourselves, but you're spreading a steamy stinking product when you take an openly-available datasheet from a manufacturer's website, etc., and lock it after adding your own front page. Furthermore, you lock it so completely the user can't even add a note (availability, cost, issues to consider), or excerpt one page with information documenting a design, etc.
Thanks for the reply Win. I respect your opinion and I did take note when you mentioned this in an earlier post. We will be un-locking the documents sometime in the near future.
On reflection it wasn't a good idea but there were a few reasons for us to lock them:
Mainly that we get users downloading thousands of datasheets for their own datasheet websites. We spend a lot of money developing our database and rely on repeat visitors to keep going.
An example: recently we received over 50 unsorted old manufacturer CDs/DVDs from Matthieu
formatting link
We hired a couple of people to sort and type out all the parts, manufacturers, and descriptions for our site. This took over 4 months.
Without the header page our site would get no recognition for this work. Especially since these datasheets get copied onto the other datasheet sites.
I recognize that was your reason, but you recognize that locking the datasheets was a bad idea and are going to unlock them; that's good.
Let me suggest you consider placing your one-page notice at the end of the datasheet's pages, rather than in front, where it's a massive in-your-face irritation, not unlike a blinking pop-up ad. That way, you'll get your message out, yet your regular users won't be tempted to remove that page like they may if left at front. OTOH, if you *insist* on leaving it at the front, then do improve its appearance and add to it useful information you've compiled, like the part's basic properties, typical price, alternate parts, etc. That way the user will find it a plus and even seek it out, rather than finding it an nagging irritation. You can place active links on the page, even including relevant advertising material, without irritating the user.
