Yes. Very basic error: they used 1 resistor to pull down two lines. That changes the total resistance and it no longer fully complies with the usb-c spec. Smart cables (or adapters using them) now recognise it as an audio device and won't charge. Apple power adapters and their cables notably. Simply use any dumb cable and they will work. Ref:
