HDMI switch - recommendations?

Or use vnc.

My (sole) rpi runs a vnc server at startup, and all access is from a client on my (linux) desktop. A bit sluggish, but very usable.

Just an additional note for those who wish to use an MS Windows machine as the remote desktop. If you install xrdp on your RPIs you can use Microsoft's standard remote desktop application to talk to them.

"sudo apt-get install xrdp" on the pi is all that is needed although, as you suggest, installing PuTTY on the Windows machine will avoid the need for ever plugging in a mouse, keyboard or monitor to your pi.

In a mad moment - David mumbled :

This is a 3 to 1 auto or manual HDMI switch I have had one since last June, and it works very well with Raspberry Pi 1B and Pi Zero and a Tablet.

Will also work with Asus EEEPc (Linux) or RiscPc, through a separate VGA to HDMI adaptor (MINI VGA2HDMI)

There is a tail output lead to fit the monitor or TV HDMI socket

You will need to find 3 HDMI leads to fit and reach your sources.

Hope this is of use to you.

I did install TightVNC on a Pi B, and could manage it from Windows using TightVNC Viewer.

However I couldn't get it to close down properly, or reboot, using TightVNC from Windows.

Also, I would like to be able to drive my 3 Pis directly when the need arises.

One is more or less dedicated as a VPN server so I don't want to mess about with it too much.

Oh, and TightVNC seems to work fine with Windows systems, and can be very useful if I'm too idle to navigate stairs. Haven't pranked other users by moving their mouse pointer yet, though.

Cheers

This would be my recommendation, do it all at once.

Do you mean from the desktop? Its a permission thing, I had the same with x11vnc under Wheezy, but not Jessie. A workaround is to do a shutdown or reboot from a terminal window.

Yes, I Think it was from the desktop, but it is a while back.

Thanks - I will give that a try.

A bit costly for the UK though.

It might also hit import duty (not sure what the limit is).

Mustn't also forget the handling charge for the carrier collecting the

different carriers.

Sometimes we hope that goods sent to us are (mis-)declared as a gift (2.4) but be aware that the lies sellers put on customs declarations are the responsibility of the consignee.

It used to be around UKP17 IIRC, but ISTR it's going to change.

Here's one

Many have recommended HDMI-switches. One way to switch keyboard and mouse to the active screen is to use x2x (already installed in Raspbian Jessie, see man x2x). I have some examples on:

It might be possible to configure x2x so that the inactive computer's HDMI is shut off and then the HDMI-switch would automatically show the active computer's HDMI-output. I don't know how to do this.

Thanks - still far more expensive than a USB switch and an HDMI switch as two separate units.
