I have a 12 year old 35" Zenith that loses the picture after 10-30 minutes of viewing. A white vertical line centered on the screen appears and then the screen goes blank.

Any ideas on the root cause or component failure?

It was plugged into a surge protector. Lightening was in the area. I was not home.

Troubleshoot and repair the vertical deflection circuit in the tv set. Common problem on that vintage of Zenith tv.

If it's a vertical line, then you'll need to troubleshoot the horizontal yoke return line. If it's a horizontal line, then you can worry about the vertical circuit. So.........which is it?

The OP stated a "vertical line" but we all know that "they" usually mean to say a horizontal line..... I am certain that is why David replied with the vertical deflection answer... a much more common problem. Anyway...... so, I agree with your question to the OP..... which is it? Vertical or Horizontal?? Best Regards, Daniel Sofie Electronics Supply & Repair
