Wavy lines on new tv

I purchased a new CRT TV one month ago. About a week ago I noticed a few small wavy lines on the left side of the screen. They are usually only noticable on a dark gray screen. But I also noticed them when watching a DVD, but they went away after a minute or two. I think this might be something called Moire, but I'm not sure.

Is this something that can be corrected? If not, does this mean the tv is defective? Is it something that will get worse over time?

The tv is 27" and 480i (I think).

Hi!

Do you see these lines on everything you watch or just selected programming from certain inputs? For example, is it there only on the tuner or is it on everything?

What kind of a TV set is it? (Make/Model)

I'd start by looking for sources of electrical interference if all the inputs on the set are equally affected. If that isn't the problem, check your cables and playback devices. Your set's behavior doesn't necessarily indicate that a failure is about to take place.

I can't tell if the lines are on every channel/program or not. I've looked and looked at that screen and it doesn't look like they are there on most channels. They seem to appear most often on the gray/ black screens that appear when trying to view Comcast OnDemand. The gray/black screen comes up and says something like - Comcast One Moment Please. Those are the screens I usually notice them on. In addition, I think I noticed them while watching a show taped off Sci- Fi on the VCR.

I'll try watching a few DVDs again and see if I notice it there.

I do wonder if it could a connection problem of some sort. I've got a digital cable box which is connected to the VCR via coaxial cable. The VCR is then connected to the TV via the coaxial cable Comcast gave me to go with the digital cable box. Then the DVD player is connected to the TV via Composite jacks that came with the DVD player. All of that equipment is plugged into a surge protector, except for the coaxial cables.

I've had electrical interference in the tvs in the past. Up until a month or two ago, everytime someone pumped up the air mattress in the other upstairs bedroom, the two upstairs tvs would get horizontal lines in them. Something I did must've changed that because I no longer get the lines. I figure it's one of three things, 1) I switched from analog cable boxes to digital (I still have the analog boxes so I could test that out), 2) I plugged the other tv into a surge protector, 3) I no longer am using the electrical outlet that is operated by a switch with the other tv, in the other room.

The tv is a 27" Sanyo HT27547. The tv actually belongs to my parents. They weren't ready to buy an LCD and/or widescreen tv yet. This was the only decent CRT tv I could find in the area.
