SUGGESTIONS for upgrading IPX 7 waterproof ratings?
Garmin GPS and Casio cell phones claim waterproofing thru rubber covers over connector ports. Any experiments with dielectric grease under the rubber covers and a superior waterproof electrical tape over the rubber cover's top surface and exterior casing?
Suggestions for a superior waterproof tape?
Also: hints for running waterproof wiring thru vinyl waterproof bags?

My experience (with a Garmin ForeRunner 301) is that Garmin's claim is BS.
The USB port is the weak point and no amount of tape seems to keep water out. Fresh water isn't so bad, but salt water works on the copper. It'll even fry a USB cable if you make the mistake of plugging one in when the receptacle isn't yet 100% dry.
I resort to a plastic bag marketed as "AquaPac". They have a number of sizes for different devices.
I called Garmin support on this and they specifically said that water damage is not covered under warranty.
"But the thing is rated/sold as waterproof.."
"It will not be warranteed for water damage."
Go figure.
