ViewSonic E390 brighness/contrast issue (similar to Dell P1110)

I have a ViewSonic E390 that even when the brightness and contrast turned all the way up the picture is still dim. This reminds me of the Dell P1110 Trinitron that a friend has that suffered from a similar issue except that in that case the monitor was too bright. In that case the issue could be easily repaired by increasing the value of a resistor (or was it a capacitor).

Is there any chance that there is a simple cure for this monitor like there was when I fixed that P1110?

Although I'm sure that someone will tell me that my 19" CRT has had a long good life and that I should replace it but I'm not in a position to do that right now unfortunately

Thanks in advanced for your time.

I'm not sure if it matters but the monitor is not an E390 but and E790. Thats what I get for covering the model number with a Debian sticker. Sorry for the confusion.

Some models have an internal control, however crank it up too high and the tube life is very short.
