DAZ9643: Here are some guesses:
- Bad or dirty tape..... try others
- Dirty tape transport and heads.
- Bad clutch
- Slipping belts and/or pinch roller
- Dirty mode switch
- Bad tape motion sensors
- Bad idler mechanism
- Faulty back-tension mechanism
