TV won't receive channel 10????

Question

I've got this Magnavox 15MF050V/17 LCD TV/VGA monitor. Has two tuner modes AIR and CATV. Has one RF input.

In Air mode, the setup mode automatically scans the channels. It properly recoginzes local VHF and UHF channels EXCEPT channel 10. It sets up channel 11 with a blue screen. If I manually force it to channel 10, I get a black&white picture with a lot of noise in the sound. Can't find any way to tweek the frequency.

In CATV mode, it properly scans and programs all the VHF channels including channel 10. Channel 10 picture is great. But it won't get any of the UHF channels.

The symptoms suggest to me that the tuner is ok? But I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it.

What's your program source -- antenna or cable? Do you have another TV for comparison?

In CATV mode, UHF refers to channels 37 and up. 14-22 ate "midband" between broadcast channels 6 and 7, 23-36 are "superband" between broadcast 13 and 14.

Cable providers often offset the channel frequencies to prevent interference with broadcast signals. They may also map channels to different frequencies altogether.

With the tuner set for CATV, you should be able to receive over the air signals, with UHF channel numbers remapped as follows:

Broadcast 14-43 -- add 51 (14=cable 65, 43=cable 94) BroaDCAST 44-69 -- ADD 56 (44=cable 100, 69=cable 125)

i cant believe anyone still uses VHF - where are you based?? in the Ukat least ,vhf for tv was phased out in the early 80s.

For the moment at least, in the US most of the major network stations--ABC, CNS, NBC--are on the lower (channels 2-5) VHF channels.jak
