Telezapper problem

Have any group members looked in a telezapper please? I can find no inform ation about how it works and the company seems to have gone out of business ?

I have been using one successfully for a number of years, with the only pro blem occurring when someone picks up a line while it is in use: Then the te le zapper sends out the three note signal (THIS NUMBER IS NOT WORKING- TAKE IT OFF YOUR LISTS) in the middle of a conversation.

Recently I have had to change telephone systems from a 1.9 GHz to a 5.8 GH z one.

Suddenly the tele zapper has started giving out the signal 10-30 seconds in to a call, for no apparent reason. And it usually blasts my eardrum with t he signal two to three times in a row.

(It does still operate to get rid of telemarketers, - I can still detect it sending out the signal when the phone picks up and lots of telemarketers d isconnecting immediately their computer-dialers hear the signal)

The coincidence of the system apparently failing when I changed phones seem s too great for this just to mean that the device itself is dying but does anyone hear have any idea what is going on please? There is only one way t o connect this device and turning it around hasn't changed anything

Seems to be lots of children talking about this subject, not exactly a technical thread

Although one of them said "BTW- the Telezapper and other sinilar consumer and commercial devices uses a combination of tones and line voltage pulses to accomplish its ask. Using tone only will not work with all phone systems."

Some of the links work, you need to do some digging though...

I suspect your problem came about because the phone companies may be using a different type of phone line control voltages now, or if your phone is from a cable provider then the device can't fully function as a result. Although I think you said it was still a land line.

Call your phone provider technical support - they are often bored of the same old calls and your question may interest them enough to try to help you sort it out...

OK Good idea, I have put a ticket in and some repair man is presumably goin g to give me a call: In the meantime, I have disconnected the device and s uddenly note that it isnt absolutely passive in operation and that there is a switch on it with the two options on it being either SAS or ADV. It has always been set to ADV.

DO you have any idea what these settings refer to please and is this some r eference to control voltages by any chance?

Why not plug them into Google along with Telezapper and see what turns up? OK, that didn't work so well, so you will just have to hunt around tossing various words at google and see what turns up...'telephone' 'line control', um....

With a unit I have been using for a decade or so, This definitely falls in to the 'ya learn something new every day" class. Googling REVIEWS let's on what is going on when users comment on how/whether it works

Apparently there were two of these units. An older one (sas?) which sent ou t a tone and a newer one (adv) which telezapper had to design when telemark eters ignored the tone or their computers stopped responding to it.

The newer one sends out three tones (what I had always regarded wrongly as THE sit tone)

And interestingly for a unit so old, I discovered that there is a 3032 in i t which has been in there so long but which seems to have finally died. i am now testing it because as it was "working' for so long in that it sent o ut the signal, I need to see if anything in the circuit needed power to tel l it WHEN to send out the signal.

Anyway, preliminary report is that putting a new battery in it hasn't done much: It still buts into conversations 30-40 seconds after they have starte d with the annoying tone. I suppose this may mean that the uni has simply died?
