Technics ST-CH505

Hi, I don't know it anyone can help on this, but... I have an old Technics ST-CH505 hi-fi system that is still servicable. It only has a single AUX input, so I've got as DAB radio plugged in. I also want to plug my digital media player in too.The connections between the separate components (amp, tuner, cd & tape) in the CH505 are via a ribbon cable and connectors rather than standard RCA. I disconnected the tape player years ago, so I have a spare ribbon connector going to the amp. Does anyone know what the pin connections are so I could make up a connection to some RCA plugs? Either that or a suitable place to go and search for this information.

Thanks

Simon

No, but could be determined. Power up the system, select Tape as the source. Holding the cable by the insulation (little shock hazard here...probably all voltages below 15 vdc)--and having previously stripped the ends--touch each wire in turn with the lead of a pencil. The left and right signal leads should each make a loud hum in each respective speaker. These wires connect to the center conductor of your new input jack. (You 'could' at this point just splice on cable with RCA plug...not very elegant). Once you find the signal ground, you're home free.

All the above assumes you have no actual test equipment....

Hi!

Do you still have the tape deck? Open it and look at the printboard inside. On my ST-Z990 tuner, the functions of each wire in the ribbon cable are labeled.

(640x480, 141KB, note that you can see an "L" printed on the board. I believe this is where the left channel audio for the tuner comes out.)
