How can I connect my spark plug directly up to the wire? I've tried rapping the wire around the spark plug terminal and just touching the wire to the terminal, I get spark but can get it to start.

Chewing gum works OK for emergency use. Wrap the wire then stick a blob of gum to hold it on & get you home. Carbon core cables are a B****R though with a paperclip stabbed up them, even they are bodgeable.
