Sony CCD-FX230 tape stuck

I was copying 8mm tapes to my computer using a video capture card and now one is stuck in the camera. The screen shows the "other error" symbol and the camera won't eject, play or rewind. It does not appear there is an emergency eject button anywhere. I had just copied 4 tapes and they all worked fine. Nothing special about the one that is stuck. Do I have any options (other than going to a repair shop)?

The mechanisms involved are delicate and generally not something an end user can remedy.

I have seen bad tapes cause this problem.

The only thing that I would recommend trying is to disconnect power to the camera for a short time then re-apply power. This may allow the mech to "spool-up: enough into the home position in hopes that the tape will then "eject" at least enough to slide the tape cart.out even if there's tape still unspooled in the mech. You may have to try it a few times.

If it works, you can try another tape(known to be good) and dertermine if it's the player or the tape. If it does the same thing with another tape, you've got to have the camera serviced anyway..

Hope this helps, Sparkey
