Sony BVW35 BetacamSP portable drawing excessive supply current.

Sony BVW35 BetacamSP portable

I recently purchased a BVW35 (NTSC) portable BetacamSP recorder on eBay (item 260191946198). I also bought a power cable cable (eBay item

280195546810) which has ground pin 1 and 12V on Pin4. The machine powers up OK, but draws a hefty 2A and makes a whining sound. This doesn't seem right. Eject does not operate: Right takeup spool splins clockwise for a moment but that is all. The loading ring is already unloaded (and if I wind it in a bit, it properly unloads again).

Some more detail: The 2A is drawn at all times that the unit is switched on, unless the PB/EE switch is in the SAVE position, in which case it is only drawn for the time it is trying (and failing) to eject. Conclusion: When the deck is powered up, something is taking 2A. Perhaps a stalled motor. Switching off teh TBC does not change the drawn current, nor panel illumination, so eliminating those items.

Anyone have diagrams of this machine? Mine is the BVW35 but manuals for the BVW35P would be fine for this problem.

I'm in the UK and needed an NTSC BetaSP player.
