Sirius Starmate ST2 Thermal Problem

After installing a new Starmate Satellite receiver and antenna, I noticed that when I turned it on first thing in the morning when it was cold (~30F), "Acquiring Signal" was on the screen for up to 3 minutes before there was reception. For the rest of the day, there was no problem getting prompt reception when it was turned on (the unit wasn't too cold).

With the Receiver warmed up and running ok, I put it in the freezer for 15 minutes. When I put it in the car "Acquiring Signal" lasted 5 minutes.

Has anyone experienced this failure due to the cold with a satellite receiver? I've ordered a replacement ST2 too see if this persists.

The most simple thing is to try another receiver or LNB to know which one is at fault.

Nope. I have noticed that the Sirius Signal just plain sucks though.

It won't persist if that replacement radio is a Roady2 or a Myfi.

Sometimes, but not at the same time.

I've had the same problem with my Starmate ... 'Acquiring Signal' for a bit ... _only_ when it's cold. Although it hasn't lasted 5 minutes and only about 2 minutes for me. Still annoying! I have no problem with signal other than prior to warming up.

I'm researching it now ... hence finding your post, but haven't done anything else or found out anything else. Have you heard anything else or contacted Sirius about the issue since last post?

We've had quite a warm winter in PA, so it hasn't happened too often, but it may occur more and more now that Mother Nature has realised it's winter and we expect colder weather until Spring.

Anyhoo, I plan on contacting Sirius in re. Good Luck to you!
