Hi All,
I have a Onkyo DX-V500 laserdisc/CD player which one day decided to stop working with no warning.
The unit powers up OK, and eject/insert works fine, but when the Play button is pushed, the disc does not spin, and after a few seconds comes up with the message "No Disc". The motor seems to meter out at sensible ohms for a motor, and seems to spin freely. The motor driver transistors seem to also measure as OK.
I am wondering if it is likely to be the laser not detecting the presence of a disc, and so not bothering to turn the spindle, or whether it is supposed to spin up first but cannot. I have tried manually spinning the disc at the appropriate time, but as you might expect it doesn't make a lot of difference.
Does anybody have a service manual or experience with this type of unit or fault? It's too nice a unit to throw away, and I have a lot of discs for it.
Thanks,
Alan.
