I have a side by side Admiral refrigerator that makes a humming / high frequency rattle like sound. When I move the refrigerator the sound is significantly reduced to the point of being acceptable. It sometimes takes a few pushes to get it to go away.
Cause? Loose part? Loose compressor?

I bought a new Kenmore side by side two years ago and it had a humming/ high frequency rattle like sound. It would only make this noise after the compressor had been running for a few minutes. I rolled it out from the wall and took the cover off the back of the bottom so I could see inside. The two copper pipes that connected to the compressor went up about 4" and then one of them turned 90 degrees to the left past the other pipe. They were vibrating against each other when the compressor and pipes got hot. I bent the pipes apart about an 1/8" being careful not to put stress on them where they joined the compressor. It has been quiet ever since.

I bought a new General Electric refrigerator about ten years ago.Now the area below the freezer area doesn't cool down like it should.Would that be caused by a faulty switch? I think the compressor and fan and grill, all of that stuff, is located below on the bottom of the refrigerator. cuhulin
It could be a number of things including a faulty thermostat (switch), but first clean the coils underneath. If they are plugged with dust, the condensor won't be able to dissipate the waste heat properly. If that's OK, check that the defrost timer is working.
