I am repairing a la-1831jmw-bk rev a2. Everything hardware wise tests out fine. It briefly comes on, you can see what the computer is trying to display for about 5 or 10 seconds, then it says it cannot detect what is being displayed (NO SIGNAL) and it clicks off. You can turn in on again, and it does the same thing.
Any Ideas?

I see a lot of crt monitors with this problem too. Unfortunately I don't know what causes it; I'm not a monitor expert. But I have noticed that most monitors using a sony controller/osd chip need that chip replaced at some point.
Computer is set to a non-supported resolution. The display will display the boot up information but as soon as the computer changes to the non-supported resolution the lcd turns off.
The cable between the monitor and computer is bad.
There is little you can do to fix the inside of the lcd monitor for a problem like this as the signal process board is multi-layer ultra high density and no service information is available.

If it is a non-supported resolution issue, and if you are using Windows, then boot your machine in safe mode. R-click on the desktop and set the display properties to a safe resolution such as 640 x 480 and 16 or 256 colours. Then reboot your machine in normal mode and use the same procedure to progressively select a more appropriate resolution and refresh rate.
