LG DVD Player Won't Turn Off

5 year old BP620 used primarily for streaming media. Long ago the WiFi became flakey so I used an old router as an AP and plugged into the ethernet port. Worked fine for several years. Now the wired port fails to appear at times. I used a different AP, same result. I've reloaded the firmware. Works OK for days or weeks, then fails again. Turning the DVD off [with the remote or using the power button] does not completely turn the DVD off and now results in a white screen until I unplug it. This is plugged into a Samsung TV so I don't think it relates to LG Simplex connectivity. When I open up the chassis, what am I looking for as a likely culprit? Thanks.

Possibly replugging the power cord while holding the power button for 20 seconds restores things. [But it could just be the act of replugging.] In any case, this is annoying. Any suggestions appreciated.

Here's my follow up for future reference or comment: I think the physical DVD device may be polled in the turn-on/boot-up process. If the physical DVD device fails to respond appropriately, the boot-up fails and the DVD won't turn off and can't find the internet, wired or wifi. At that point, the DVD needs to be unplugged.

The work around seems to be to have a DVD in the tray. Open and close the tray once or twice with the remote until the DVD disc is recognized. The player then see the internet and can be turned off normally.

Sound logical?
