Kenwood KRF-V7050 remote control problem

Hi all,

I have a weird situation on my Kenwood A/V receiver. It seems that when my receiver is turned off for a while, the remote can't operate it (it's in stand-by mode), but if I manually turn on the receiver, then after a while (10-15 min.) the receiver seems to respond to the remote.

I've already checked that the remote is outputing infra signal from it's led, and it does. I've even tried a universal remote control with no help.

Ideas anyone?

Depending on the receiver type, there may be a computer type battery on the circuit board for the receiver's uPC. In some models, they use a gold leaf capacitor that is in the range of about 0.5 Farads or so. This is to store the active memory for the receiver. If the battery or the cap is defective and the temporary memory is lost, then the uPC must re-initialize and restore the system's temporary memory before it can function again.

If the battery, or the cap (depending on the receiver) is in good condition, then your fault is most likely a component that has become temperature sensitive. After the set has warmed up, the associated function starts to operate again.

I've seen bad solder connections at the remote receiver in several later model Kenwoods. This may explain why it tends to work after warmup.

As one other has already suggested -- my VR-507 exhibited the same symptoms. I found bad solder contacts at the IR receiver on the front panel. Not the easiest thing to get at but a couple dabs of solder let me veg on the couch for hours.
