Display dead on Samsung cell phone

My wife's Cingular Samsung phone (don't know model - it's a flip-type phone, new in 2004, no camera, color display, free after rebate) had its display stop working today.

The display and keypad are backlit, the thing makes and receives calls fine, but intermittantly, the display doesn't work. It's been good at times today, and been not good at other times. Right now, it's not good.

It was not dropped and was not exposed to moisture or extreme temperatures.

Any ideas what to do?

Samsung will not sell the parts. There are no aftermarket parts for these phones. Call your cell phone service provider to find out where your phone can be serviced by an authorized service rep. Normally they change the complete display board. These are not designed to be serviceable.

When the warranty on the phone is finished, they are usually not cost effective to service.
