Anyone know of plans for a 20 port video switch?
I can buy 4 port video switchers for like $10 but want to build a 20 port version.. Audio is not important..
A board or box with 20 toggle switches.. If I flip one up thats the input that I want to see.. If I flip up a different one that's the input I see.. If I flip 2 I'd expect the signal to be messed up or combined somehow.

Provided you keep all the internal leads short, you can literally buss 20 minature toggle switches together in order to do this. I have done it myself on occasion, and provided you can live with having to make sure manually that only one source is selected at a time, it works without problem. You should however, make sure that you don't select multiple sources at once, or some of those sources might object to the combined low impedance across their outputs. Also, before going down this route, make sure that none of the sources require line power ( phantom fed power ) as this will complicate matters. Some cameras need this.

The following [scalable?] setup gives you 16 ports for $50 plus 4 cables:
1-of-4 1-of-4 1-of-4 1-of-4 | | | | | | | | -------------------------- | | 1-of-464 ports will cost you $210 plus 20 cables.
If the audio ports can double as video ports, then you should be able to get 16 ports for $30, and 48 ports for $60.
It's not pretty, but it's a lot less work than rolling your own.

I'll look into this a bit more myself.. I might take a part a 4 port switch and see if it's wires or a simple board. I did also already try the trick of using the left/right/video and another switch bank to toggle.. It works great actually.. Just trying for a slightly more elegant solution I guess.
