stripping the camcorder for parts question

i dug an old RCa camcorder out of a trash pile hoping to get a nice pictire from the video portion but it wont power up..



i'm thinking it would be great if i could just remove the barrel that house the lens and hopefully enough electronics to feed to a VCR or capture card?



does that sound logical?



i dont have a deep electronics background but experience tells me i should be able tap in to the probably small board attached to the inside of that lens barrel with some DC and get some composite video out to feed a vcr input. can someone tell me if thats right or the supply i need to power it ?

Finding the supply voltage could be awkward unless you have an intact camera. In that case you can see what batteries it takes and multiply battery count by cell voltage, or it might be written beside a power jack. If neither of those are available, you'll need to try to find a voltage regulator and work out from it's vitalstatistix what sort of voltage it needs as input to get its rated output.

where could i find a dealer for lns optics like this i was goiing into the camcorder mfg biz. ? they would have the components specs documented.. i suppose i need to get it apart to ID the part number..

You will not likely be able to use just the ccd image cell to get video out directly. The ccd chip feeds to a digitizing processor and then is converted to an analog signal. You will need more of the camera electronics to work. If you can find a service manual for it, maybe a ( Sams ) manual, then you may have better luck. Maybe even repair the camera in whole. Do a google search for the model of camera + manual + sams , you might get lucky.

Edmund Scientific/Edmund Optics is a good place to start.

Oh, that's another ball-game entirely.

I mean, low-volume optical systems still have a market, as do high-volume optical systems, and the two both work with the same basic physics but in very different price/quantity points.

But I'm guessing that you are truly more interested in the surplus optics market rather than either of the above. The robotics enthusiasts have some good experience here.
