True geek ports Ubuntu Linux to 8 bit CPU
-----------------------------------------
http://liliputing.com/2012/03/8-bit-pc-can-run-ubuntu-takes-about-6-hours-to-boot.html
The guy takes an 8 bit CPU, writes an ARM CPU instruction emulator,
adds SDRAM and SDCard, and then boots Ubuntu.
Takes 6 hours to boot - but hey thats just a slow motion way of saying
it can be done!! :-)
It is nothing to be scoffed at though. The little embedded CPUs
are heading to 200MHz. Even under emulation, may still reach
a couple of emulated MIPs in a year or less.
Thats still powerful enough to boot Linux in minutes and make it
good enough for security applications and weather applications
for little more than $5 to get it going!
