Any PlamOS handheld will work.

I just switched to a Sharp Zaurus (runs Linux).

This is it!

Compaq Research Labs ( CRL ) made the bootloader and the tools for safe storing the CE image and installing familliar linux ( they are also helping up with it's development ). On top of their loader you can install Familiar linux as described in the URL that I gave you... Go here:

and follow the instructions...

If the install fails the guys at CRL will restore your CE image for free (but I doubt this will ever happen)... I've used it on the 36xx and 38xx iPAQ series (all in all 4 PDAs with familiar from version 0.5 to

0.7). It's easier to work with, faster and more stable than WinCE (and has MANY more apps). Works great!

Best Regards,

Yes, there are a number of opensource linux programs for talking to PalmOS across serial/USB. I'm pretty sure the protocol is open too, so you could just write your own.

Palms will also happily make a PPP connection across serial to a linux box so you can get them TCP/IP networked too.
