Repairing a Xantrex 600HD Powerpack--The Tricky Handle

My battery is pretty well shot, but when I contacted Xantrex tech last week, the tech said it could be taken apart. It's all in a nice orange enclosure with a handle, light, radio, and so on. He said the tricky part is getting the handle separated. I took it to a battery shop in town, and indeed they were stumped by the handle problem, but didn't force it.

Has anyone here had experience doing this?

Taking it apart was pretty easy. Screws on both halves of the orange bezel= sections (7mm nut). Remove the four feet on the bottom as well. The oran= ge bezel halves just pry off easily.

The handle has a lower grip piece that just pulls off from under. Then ano= ther series of phillips screws to break the unit in half. Lay it radio sid= e up and you need a long phillips screwdriver to get them all. Lift off th= e half and disconnect the radio power connector.

My question is....where did you find a replacement battery and what product= number? I see many that are $100-$150. A lot of them have the battery te= rminals 90 degrees from the original battery installed.

For $150 I can buy a new unit. I am not interested in spending more than $=

75 or so.
