Need tips for Weller MLR-20

Jan 17, 2004 2 Replies

Greetings all.

Can anyone recommend a source (preferably U.S.) for tips for a Weller MLR-20 soldering pencil?

I got this from a surplus dealer with a WECP-20 base station. The set appears to be in good condition (regulates temp, etc.), but I've been having trouble locating replacement tips.

I did find out that Plato makes tips that fit this iron (It had a Plato tip already, in fact):

However, when I follow their "Distributors" links, I find that most of the distributors don't stock this series at all, and those that do, have a very limited selection, and listed as non-stocking.

I'm beginning to suspect that this model was not widely sold in the U.S. (the base on mine had a European 230V plug); hence the lack of distributors who feel the need to stock parts.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

E-mail Plato and ask which distributor carries that type of tip.

We now return you to our normally scheduled programming. Take a look at this little cutie! ;-) http://home.earthlink.net/~mike.terrell/photos.html Michael A. Terrell Central Florida

I've sent e-mails to both Plato and Weller, same time I posted my original message. Being a weekend, I suppose I'll have to wait a few days to hear from them.

Just thought I'd post here in case anyone could offer any references etc.
