BUF component

How does a BUF component increase the drive strength of a signal?

Thanks

Almost all buffers are two inverters in a chain. The last inverter may have bigger transistors.

But even with standard size transistors a buffer is useful: If a weak signal is only capable of driving the first inverter of a buffer, the output inverter will be capable of driving much more gates. The cost for all this: a delay.
