Microblaze, XIo_OutXX() vs pointer

In EDK exist functions XIo_Out8, XIo_Out16, XIo_Out32 (and XIo_InXX). I don't understand him needed :( Than designers not has satisfied pointers?

They are not functions, they are macros and they expand to simple assignment through pointer dereference statements.
