build an embedded os ?

Dear all i want to install a small or embedded os on the main board, via's EPIA

formatting link
i have installed desktop-like ubuntu and netbsd both with x window on it (start x successfully not yet in netbsd ) ubuntu has most hardware supports both need 256 mb ~ 512 mb without any kernel tuning or package slimming I need a os with software dvd player and usb driver hope size is around 32mb

after surfing the net tiny x server sounds good

so i think my kernel based on ubuntu + tiny x server + vlc(it takes around 10 mb ^^a ) (about dvd player , i just want decoder support mpeg 2 the most popular one in the hardware dvd player now ) any body has better solution?

Sincerely Michael

Why do you need X at all? You can fit kernel (with framebuffer driver) and mplayer into a 32Mb boot image size easily, though I would suggest

64~128Mb RAM.

I don't know if the size constraints can be kept up with, but I find mandriva to be the best hardware-support distro out there.
