Ultrasonic Sensor in a pipe

Dear friends: I have designed an ultrasonic range meter for measuring the surface of a liquid in a tank. the height of tank to be measured is about 3meters.the sensors'(transmitter and receiver) have 60 degrees directivity but I improve it somehow using tow horns one for transmitter and the other for receiver. The problem is I should place the sensors in a tube along the tank's height .Does the tube's wall affects the main echo or is there any special material that absorbs(and not reflects) ultrasound which can be used for making the tube. what size is suitable for the diameter of tube? what do you recomend for avoiding these probable unwanted echos?

My guess:

If you are using a straight-walled tube, the first signal recieved should be from a straight line from the emitter to the tank liquid surface, then bounced back to the receiver.

If the tank liquid has foam on top...would you still get an accurate signal reflection?

Make sure you have another backup overflow protection if you are using this to fill a tank.
