--- Your AND example should be wired like this:

and your OR example should be wired like this:
. +9V>---+--[R]--[LED>]-+-C E--+ . | | B | . | ____ | | | . +--O O---[R]--|---+ | . | | | . | +-C E--+ . | B | . | ____ | | . +--O O------------+ | . | . GND>---------------------------+
