removing IR LEDS from board camera

I've a board camera (link below) which has 6 Infra Red LEDs around the CCD sensor. This helps with visibility in the dark. But I don't want to use the LEDs as they produce a lot of heat and I want to use the camera for astronomy, so I want the CCD sensor to run cool so as to reduce noise in the sensor. I just wonder if removing these LEDS could damage the board.

The easiest way is to clip the LEDs off.

Or you can clip one leg (cathode or anode) off each anode tie them together and wire that lead up to a switch. That way you can turn the LEDs off and on.
