Online order Review Allelectronics and Nightfire Electronics

I am just beginning to study electronics so my experience whith these types of companies is very limited, but I thought I would share my experience with those interested.

All electronics is a good company. A well organized web site, order feedback, and good prices make shopping here a breeze. Shipping and handling prices are a little high though. Ordered on a Saturday afternoon. Recieved the next Thursday. My experiences with other online companies make me give this turn around a mediocre rating. The email feedback made this bearable, however. All the components were seperated by type and individually bagged and labeled, making sorting easy.

Nightfire electronics (ie vakits.com) offers its items in kit form. This convenience is what drew me to them, being a beginner. The thought of having to order each little item individually seemed troublesome. The overall transaction went smoothly, however, I was not impressed with any aspect of their service. It felt as though I was doing business with one person with a garage full of parts. Other than the original order confermation email, there was no feedback. I didn't know they had even shipped the order until I received it.

For you other beginners out there this is one of the main flaws. All of the resistors were sent together, 15 values x 5 each in one little bag, loose. You will have to spend a little time sorting values. A positive way to look at it is that you will learn color codes faster. The same story applies to the capacitors.

In the end, I did get what I paid for in a reasonable amount of time, but it was not the best shopping experience.

I haven't checked Nightfire, but the AllElectronics website is indeed clean and well-organized. I quickly found an item I need this coming week. Thanks for the suggestion. OMU

I can't say much in regard to "websites" as I don't usually use them for most ordering - but Mouser and Hosfelt Electronics are pretty quick and accurate. I can't recall having dealt with "ALL" though it may be I have - long ago. I've never heard much about them - certainly not in a negative manner.

As for shipping feedback, what would you have gotten before e-mail? You called to order, they took it - charged your credit card or whatever.... you waited the few days to get it. I think as long as you get your products in a "reasonable" time and it is what you expected, what does it matter if they don't tell you when it was shipped? If you do NOT receive it - then I'd be asking questions. Even if they give you a ship date, there is no guarantee they can promise it - unless a special service is used. Personally, I wouldn't sweat that small stuff. If that was their only fault - why bother?

It's pretty much standard procedure for most online companies nowadays. They tell you when the item left their warehouses, so you gan guess when it will arrive. I like it, it gives you confirmation that everything's doing ok with your order and will be there soon.
