OK guys, Thanx meantime for your responses. Not getting much help...:( I know it's illegal, I know it's dangerous, and I know that I can build a huge wall between our houses.... But, I'm still interested to build this device, for reasons that I cannot mention here... If anyone wants to help me, please do, but I don't like conferences about my skills, or legal advices etc. TIA to anyone who actually tries to help :) NINA

Instead of a "silent" jam, get a radio on the same frequency next to your transmitter and transmitt a feedback squeel. This would get some attention if they have volume turned up.

Just use a Ramsay kit, wipe out whole goddam FM band in one go!

So you want to wipe out the whole of the band to save you the bother of retuning? I don't think you've thought this through very well. What about everyone else in the neighbourhood who presumably don't annoy others with too much volume? They're going to get wiped out, too. 3-5W can cause quite a bit of widespread local disruption unless you're in a strong signal area.

I'm not being funny here, but have you tried asking them politely to turn their music down? I used to have a similar problem with my neighbours, and I found polite requests surprisingly effective. It may be worth talking to other neighbours to see if they are also annoyed by the load music as, obviously, the more people on your side the more likely the noisy neighbours are to realise that they are in the wrong.

Another thing I would recommend is that you look up the appropriate local laws. For example, here it in England it is an offence to cause a "statutory noise nuisance", which is defined as any noise which causes "unreasonable disturbance to the use and enjoyment of one's property". Persistent offenders can be fined up to 5000 UKP (about $9000).

As others have said, deliberately jamming their radio could get you into serious trouble, maybe even a few months in jail.

Not to recommend that you break FCC rules, but you probably would get minimum hassle using VCO. Note that 3-5W might get a few people you don't want to get. :)

Get high-speed VCO that can cover your range, then drive the input with another oscillator that causes the VCO to step sweep over FM band. Or, instead, you can drive VCO with D/A whose input is PRNG.

But if you really want to get clever, get digital FM receiver chipset, VCO, etc, and make a circuit that allows you to force your neighbor to listen to the station you want him to listen to, by taking the output from the tuner and regenerating it in a spread-spectrum fashion, pausing at each allocated band just long enough to make your station detectable. Of you use mic or line-out of computer with "disturbing sounds on hard disk" to be replayed....

Or you could just knock on door and use oldest analog device known to man - the mouth.
