Measuring Current

Hi,

I've come accross this component:

Which says that it uses a hall effect sensor to measure the current.

In theory, if I were to tape a hall effect sensor to the wire, would it work just as well? Obviously it would take a bit of calibration, but would that be the only difference?

Cheers,

Michael

Hall effect devices can be used to measure Lorentz force. That's how a clamp on ammeter works. You'd actually be measuring the voltage produce by the Hall effect sensor which increases with current increase.
