How Do They Get So Much Money for Grid Ties?

Are there still some unexpired patents out there?

Does a grid tie require a 200 lb copper coil?

It is probably because of the extensive testing, certification, and liability issues of a device that connects to the utility company grid, and which has "potentially" life threatening implications if it fails to work as required. Something like the latest pill (such as Celebrex) which probably costs $0.10 to make and they sell for $3 a poop. (Oops, that's for a laxative!)
