Over the last couple of weeks or so I've been having trouble with myDSL service in that it's been intermittent. That is, sometimes Igot the bandwidth I was paying for, and sometimes I might have justas well been using a dialup connection or not been connected to thenetwork at all.After going through a couple of levels of offshore troubleshooters Ifinally got passed off to hardcore US tech support, and what asurprise! And a pleasure.A tech with a voice from Ohio checked my system and said that theline seemed to be fine, so it might be my modem and would it be OKif a tech showed up tomorrow to check whether the fault was on myside of the line, or theirs.We scheduled an appointment for between noon and 5PM, and as soon asI went back on-hook my periodontist's office called, wanting to knowif I could come in early for my cleaning since there was an X-ray ofthe implant site that needed to be taken...Traffic, here in Austin, has gotten to be horrible, so in order toget to my gum dentist on time I have to leave home about 45 minutesbefore the time of my appointment.Anyway, in order to make a long story longer, after I got home fromthe dentist, the tech guy showed up this afternoon and proved thatthe problem was the modem by installing a new one which worked.After that, everything worked. No charge, BTW SBC Internet Services rules, as far as I'm concerned.-- JF

Yeah. Right off the top of my head there\'s Time-Warner and Speakeasy.net >Ain\'t the Free Market great? :-)

Yup--as long as there are regulators to make sure the "competitors" don't collude in a simultaneous slide to the bottom service-wise and a sprint to the top price-wise.
