Basic Transistor

Hi guys,

I am trying to understant the meaning of quiescent state and equilibrium. When is a transistor is said to be in the quiescent state? How is the current in an unbiased p-n junction at equilibrium?

In the quiescent state, there is no AC signal applied; however, DC bias current flows.

An equilibrium is reached when the PN junction is connected in series with a resistor across a regulated DC supply. The diode voltage drop cannot increase because that would require more current, and that would increase the voltage dropped by the resistor - which reduces the voltage across the diode! The system finds an equilibrium.
