Astable Multivibrator

Hello Everyone,



I have a project where I am using two gates of a 74LS00 as a astable multivibrator. It works most of the time, but at times it refuses to start. If I walk away and come back later and flip the switch it will start right up.



It seems like it might it be a temperature problem, just coming back later after working with it and it will work, I am not sure. Does this sound right ? It runs at approx. 24KHz. Could this be a problem ?



I have no more room than the IC and the two resistors and capacitors take up on the board. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this any more reliable ?

Hello Wayne,

You could try replacing the 74LS00 with its schmitt-trigger counterpart, the

74LS132.

I actually think I have a 74LS132. I will try.

If anyone else has any other suggestions I am all ears.

offset one of the resistors and cap ?
