1500 W electric heater control

Oct 14, 2008 5 Replies

I've got a 110V, 1500 W immersion heater (similar to the kind used in electric water heaters).

I'd like to control it a little more precisely than simply switching it on/off every 30 seconds.

Is this a good application for a triac?

Thanks,

Michael

A resistive load, sure sounds like it.

Better than good; perfect! What do you want to do? JF

Eh, I just want to heat up some... uh... liquid to... oh, about 97 degrees Centigrade.

Will I need a snubber?

Thanks,

Michael

No, but you\'ll need a temperature controller. Build or buy? JF

It's done all the time:
