Your government at work

"During a Thursday meeting that was supposed to be about using technology to address climate change, lawmakers on the House's Science, Space and Technology Committee sparred over the cause of rising sea levels. Some conservatives at the meeting shared their denial that climate change is, in fact, a real phenomenon.

The nadir of the meeting arguably came when Representative Mo Brooks of Alabama said that falling rocks and moving dirt are to blame for oceans rising across the globe."

Good job. Nadir means "the lowest point in the fortunes of a person or organization."

True that republicans (don't call them conservative, they have no idea what that means) are lacking in science knowledge, but so are liberals. Conserv ative want to throw the baby out with the bathwater so to speak, but libera ls take the word of scientists as gospel, even though they disagree signifi cantly on this subject. Both lack real logical scientific thought and there fore are vulnerable to attack on same.

The democrats full of doom and gloom and wanting to tax everything ti fix t he environment, and if they got their way there would be no industry and th e select few would buy expensive electric cars and the electricity would co me from the ether or something. They would have to revisit Tesla's works an d try to figure that out, and even if it does work there is not way to mete r it and therefore no way to charge for it. they would run out of other peo ple's money quickly.

And then we have the republicans who seem to put forth the idea that burnin g all this shit over all these years is not only not warming the place up, but possibly even cooling it down. One or two areas of the planet experienc e lower than normal temperatures and they put it forth as absolute proof th at the whole thing is a hoax.

The folly of both sides is the belief that they will accomplish social engi neering and technological direction by taxation and/or regulation, the late r being the same thing only disguised. What's more they will not do either without the approval of lobbyists making this nearly a moot point entertain ed only for show to make themselves look useful, which is the only reason t hey do anything supposedly for the common good.

The fact is that the big bad oil companies, though typical business and gre edy capitalists, operate on a very small margin. Like when health insurance companies were "allowed" to make what, 20 % ? Oil companies would suck a m ile of gorilla dick to make that margin. the oil companies make alot of mon ey because of the sheer volume of sales.

And they do actual research, and fund it themselves looking for alternative energy. They don't generally ask for government handouts for that purpose. Even with the constraints of the quarterly report , alternative energy is coming whether they like it or not.

Therefore it is in their best interest to research and develop those source s so that when it is time to sell them en masse, they are the ones to do it and therefore reap the profits. They are not doing it out of any type of c ivic responsibility or altruistic aims whatsoever, business is business.

However these concepts are beyond the grasp of most of today's activists wh o are chiefly impelled by feelgood actions, a sense of "think of the childr en" and other means to try to cover their moral shortcomings. They think as their told when it makes them feel good. And then we have the deniers who could have a couple of possible motivations, one being letting the next gen eration clean up their mess, and the other to appeal to certain idiot votin g blocks on which they have unfortunately been forced to depend because of so many voting themselves money, which means voting for the democrats.

So it appears the result will be that the human race will spin its wheels u ntil it can no longer afford new tires.

I used "their" instead of "they're". Sue me. actually it was due to an edit, "their masters tell them" but I though it best to remove that part.

the environment.

They don't. A carbon tax is a tax on burning fossil carbon as fuel - which isn't a tax on "everything" - and it isn't intended to "fix the environment " but rather to move the economy away from getting it's energy by burning f ossil carbon as fuel, which does damage a part of the environment - by rais ing atmospheric CO2 levels, which does have knock on effects - but won't fi x the whole environment.

Anthropogenic global warming is something to be gloomy about, if you unders tand it, but most republicans don't want to bother, since it's inconvenient information.
