Isn't CA scheduled to drop off in the ocean, Soon? Why make future plans.

Which simply is a simple answer to the last question. At least that way you can collect 99 weeks of unemployment.

We cut off California periodically, just to taunt them that we can do it at will... but we call it an accident by an incompetent employee ;-) ...Jim Thompson

Wolf, wolf, wolf.

Please do so more often. I have a backup generator on natural gas or propane. I was about to power my whole neighborhood, if it lasted any longer. My neighbours will be willing to pay 50 cents per KWhr, just to keep their fridges and freezers running.

I am going to talk to the HOA, for the emergency plan.

Some of us might know he is joking, but others might not. There might be extremists who would follow his advise and do it. We do have some social responsibilities, not to mention liabilities here.

I'll be damned. That is just short of an ad for me (or a similarly qualified PE) to come in and make a proposal to do this. Should i start my consulting business now?

I have often wondered as well what the qualifications really need to be for the company to be on solid legal footing if something goes wrong.

Ie., is a PE or licensed electrician needed to "certify" equipment?

They seem to have indicated that the legal dept. has informed them that if something goes wrong, at least they will defend the workers doing the work, as long as they did it in "good faith."

I'm inclined to take them at their word on that. What worries me still is whether THEY are legally on solid ground if they simply send a bunch of guys with "Elec..." in their job title to an "inspection training" which is really just the training to enter data into a database, and has nothing to do with knowing codes, then assign those guys to do safety inspections?

I remember one of those years ago. Someone designed a test fixture that applied a few thousand volts to some production assembly for test purposes. The thing had only one switch that applied the high voltage. It was the president of the company who took note and requested the fixture be redesigned to include 2 switches separated by an arms reach so that it required two hands separated by a great distance to apply the high voltage.

Not really. Just the same, if a PE certifies it for safety properties it has legal standing in court. Not true for a non-licenced engineer. See section 6700 et seq. of the business and professions code.

The regulations are similar in other states.
