If digital filters are done right they can be very stable. That is one reason why WDFs were introduced.
Digital filters of the same performance as analog filters are still power hogs though. There is an excellent paper in the latest IEEE Spectrum about that, in regards to cochlear type implants where power consumption is a key factor.
