Qorvo is on my blacklist.

Why?

Maxim is on mine. Things go EOL without warning.

Qorvo has been a good stock for me to make mone with . They go up and down about $ 10 per share every week. The stock has slightly more than doubled in the last year. From about $ 80 to $ 190 per share.

That is one stock I have been playing around with for a couple of years and it has done very well for me. The factory is up the road about 40 miles from me.

Well that rules out Decawave for you, which is a pity. They're cool devices.

Same. They EOL'd a lot of Stanford Microdevices (then Sirenza, then RFMD) and also WJ MMICs.

I suppose they are not quite as bad as Avago, whom I blacklisted more than 20 years ago when still part of HP.

Sirenza had some nice SiGe MMICS. S11 was actually 50 ohms!

We bought over 6000 of ATF-50189 for a pulse generator output stage, when they went EOL. Then the NXP fast PNP drivers went EOL, so I redesigned the whole thing with GaN.

The bga GaN fets are fragile and impossible to rework, so I did the circuit as a throw-away mouse-bite baby board.

Discrete RF parts are going away, as things like cell phones use more custom RF IC's.

Yes, many discrete parts are going away and custom IC's are the thing. I remember the first computers like the Comodore and Radio Shack. They had many parts in them , Now you can get one of the Arduino that is hardly larger than a USB drive with more computer power and the Rasbury Pie about the size of a pack of cigarets has many times the power. Only a couple of chips in either one.

When one of the chips goes bad there are no replacements for them. Seems that just about anything electronic now is a throw away due to none of the custom parts.

Reminds me of a story years ago about a military radar that needed a 10 cent diode. Because it had to meet military spec the manufactor did not have any and had to make a batch of them that costs many thousands of dollars to make a batch as just a few could not be made.

Yeah, I used tons of those Sirenza SiGe MMICs. There was a great selection. Qorvo destroyed it.

Case example: Qorvo EOL'd the SXB2089z, an NPN InGaP HBT. I needed to find a replacement. The "on Vbe" for linear biasing for InGaP/GaAs is apparently up around 1.3 V. (Guessing it is not Darlington.) For now, I am using the BFQ790, a SiGe NPN from Infineon to replace the SXB2089z. The Vbe for for linear biasing the BFQ790 is more like straight Si: about 0.8 V. Some bias resistor changes w/o Cu/PCB seems feasible so far to replace the SXB2089z with BFQ790. (I wanted to step the beta in LTspice as a cursory check on DC stability, but it is a level 4 model and I have no idea how to do it.)

Infineon is better than Qorvo.

I also liked the ECG008 (and ECG003). The ECG008 could do 24 dBm (P1dB) w/ and had an IP3 of 40 dBm. These were EiC parts originally, acquired by WJ, then RFMD, and then Qorvo. WJ had some classics too.

Qorvo has ruined Sawtek too. TDK wrecked Epcos, and I think Qualcomm may now own the Epcos IP.

Speaking of SAWs, muRata acquired RF Monolithics some years ago and muRata seems to have buried them too.

I mostly look to Vectron and Tai-Saw for SAWs these days. Vectron is now part of Microchip, but they seem to be leaving them to do their thing.
