A lady who is now retired, but used to work in a job which took herregularly between Britain and America, has given me some pictures of amachine which she was asked to photograph in America about 20 years ago(or more?). She never knew what the machine was or what it did, but sheunderstood it was a prototype for something which was being patented atthe time.I have scanned the pictures in detail and uploaded them to:...they are all different views of the same machine.Does anyone have any idea what it might have been?-- ~ Adrian Tuddenham ~(Remove the ".invalid"s and add "" to reply)

Looks like a reel to reel tape recorder with 5 'reels', and looks more than20 years old.--

Unidentified machine - any ideas?

That was my guess also. If you look at the platters, there is no way they could be tape reels. Also, there are things that appear to be disk heads. IBM was into drum memory; so, no idea whose it might be.

If you blow up one of the pictures (from the rear) you can see a tape head and tape itself leading to each of the platters.
