Toslink audio question

Aug 30, 2016 3 Replies

I connected my toslink optical cable from my TV to a Denon AVR-1801 Digital Theater System AV .

But I am getting no sound.

It appears that the receiver does not detect the audio signal from my TV.

The Toslink cable does show a red light, so I think the cable is good.

On your TV can you change the digital output between PCM and Dolby Digital? Also, on my receiver, for any video channel I can select between analog and digital input. Have you switched it to the toslink input and not the analog?

My tv only offered PCM and raw.

raw did not work either.

On the receiver, I can not find a setting for toslink only input.

There is an analog and analog only setting.

Since the toslink cables are cheap, I may get another one.

It was the cable.

Due to their high attenuation of light, the effective range of plastic opti cal cables is limited to 5?10 m. They can temporarily fail or be pe rmanently damaged if tightly bent.

The cable came in a thin plastic bag instead of a sturdy container like my new one came in.
