The hydroxyl ion - usually written OH- but actually a hydrated electron - isn't going to be removed by an oxygen bubbler.

You have to change the pH - the hydroxyl to hydrogen ion ratio - to do that.

What hydroxl radicals might do inside quartz crystals hasn't got much to do with what might be going on in vat of molten iron.

STUPID question: _WHERE_ does the energy come from? Certainly not by magic. Burning coal? Burning oil? Creating CO2?

Probably not. The Dutch have pretty much stopped mining coal, and the natural gas is running out.

Creating CO2 without a source of fossil carbon would take magic.

Probably not. My guess is that Dutch will be thinking of giant wind farms out in the North Sea, which doesn't involve forming any chemical bonds (except perhaps in the concrete that supports the wind-mills.

What would you expect from Cursitor Doom? His primary information sources seem to be The Daily Mail and Russia Today

The Dutch aren't big on solar power - they are a bit far north, and a bit too cloud-covered to make that work. But they have lots of nice shallow North Sea close by in which to set up windmill farms. They've got plans.

Enthalpy, entropy and classical thermodynamics do provide a clear conceptual framework, but one that is difficult to teach because it is hard to get your head around.

Cursitor Doom doesn't show much sign of ever having done that, so this is presumably just more of his posting links to stuff he doesn't understand (and probably doesn't understand well enough to appreciate how little he understands).
