Never had a fluorescent light fixture fall down. They're all hung by screw hooks I the joists. Now, I've waked the Tubes with various objects. That always fun to clean up.

Uh, maybe not... I'd rather be hit by a fluorescent fixture then the entire ceiling!

Which way do the joists run? If its at right angles to the fixture, just locate a couple and drill up through the fixture and ceiling. If not, you'll need to install a couple of brackets to span the joist space.

Don't forget to check the j-box. The fixture might have pulled it loose when it fell.

This is why its a good idea to have some sort of shield under the lamps.

I've seen an entire office worth of fluorescent fixtures fall out of a suspended ceiling during an earthquake. They all ended up hanging from their flex conduit but no lamps fell out.
