TDA1524A, or? (stereo analog volume and tone control)

I'm curious, are there any IC's similar to TDA1524A [1] (stereo analog volume and tone control)?



A Web search has revealed TDA1526 [2] and BA3853BFS [3]. The application circuit for the first has, at the first glance, a few more passive parts (than the one for TDA1524A) for the filters. The one for BA3853BFS has seven (!) 10 uF capacitors. Are there particular advantages (or disadvantages) that I may be missing?



I'm somewhat concerned over that TDA1524A may no longer be manufactured. (Though, as it seems, it's still more widely available than either TDA1526 or BA3853BFS.)

Have you checked for availability and stock numbers lately? At least in the US it looks dismal and that doesn't bode well. Personally I do not use any Txx-type ICs because they are obsoleted so quickly. Probably because of key account strategies at the manufacturers. Which is the wrong corporate strategy IMHO ...

Well, given that I'm located in what's typically thought of as "Asia," I'm more interested in suppliers from Hong Kong or China, and they seem to still sell it.

(But also to note is that I'm interested in dozens of parts at most, not something like 10 000 or more.)

Huh? AIUI, TDA1524A is from 1987.

Sure, but if something becomes unobtanium in the US that usually means it's only a matter of time until it's gone worldwide. Also, be careful with some Asian sources, that you don't get rebranded merchandise that "fell off the truck somewhere" a few years ago.

For Hobby it should be ok.

With Txx-chips that means nothing. Many don't even survive a few years in the market because they were probably made for one particular TV set or something like that. Then when the production of this set stops ... poof.

My advice is not to buy stuff from the scalpers. If you end up getting QC rejects or even fake die you might waste a lot of your time finding out what's wrong, even though nothing is wrong with the rest of your circuit.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to see any IC there that would feature /analog/ control. I understand that there are certain advantages in controlling such an IC digitally (and, indeed, I'm interested in trying it out, at some later date), but I'd also note that it easily doubles both the complexity and the cost of the resulting circuit, which may be undesirable at times.
